Beecher School House

1789 (Date manufactured/created)
From Alice Bice Bunton's book "Bethany's Old Houses and Community Buildings"
    Present owner: Mrs. Asa Curtiss
Sperry Road, east side, 0.1 mile south of Hatfield Hill Road
Originally located a few rods south of Sperry and Hatfield Hill Roads, this is the third schoolhouse on that site to serve the southeast or Beecher District. The first was built soon after the District was established in 1789. The second was built in 1812 and survived until 1870, when this building was erected. It was enlarged in 1899, and a porch and a large bell were added. Its use as a school was discontinued in 1934, and the Town voted to sell it. The conveyance was not accomplished, however, until September 13, 1947, when it was purchased by Asa Curtiss (died November 5, 1969), who remodeled it and moved it across the road south of its original location.
