Salted paper portrait of an unidentified young man, probably of the Mills or Phelps family. The young man appears to be in his early twenties. He is seated with his right arm resting on a cloth-covered stand. He has short hair swept to the right side of his head. He is wearing a suit coat, possibly wool, a vest with a floral or berry design, a white shirt, and a striped bow tie.
There appears to be a tear in the middle right of the photograph.
The photograph is oval shaped. The walnut frame and mat have been removed in order to preserve the photograph: see Notes
