Quilt: Log Cabin design in silk. Pieced and applied to a foundation. Made of large magenta squares with black and flesh color outline strips, bright multi-colored silk scraps. Many of the scraps originated from dresses. Excellent examples of dress silks from the 1850s through the 1870s. Velvet binding. Backing made of three silks sewn in wide strips. There may be a filler, or it may be that the foundation fabric is something thicker and softer than the usual muslin-type foundation.

The data in this record comes from a 1995 quilt collection survey completed by Adrienne Saint-Pierre of 137 Poverty Hollow Road, Redding, Connecticut . Adrienne's final evaluation of this quilt states: "The construction of this quilt is not extraordinary, however, it contains an outstanding variety of dress silks from the mid to late 19th century. The vibrancy of the many colors proves that the Victorians were not limited to wearing black and dull maroon colors! Wonderful dress silks used for backing."
