Richard and John M. Niles Ledger, 1841-1843

1841 – 1843 (Date manufactured/created)
1841 – 1843 (Earliest/Latest dates)
Ledger from brothers Richard and John Milton Niles silk or saw mill and store business. It is not clear the type of business, though we see clues, sales of silk, return of an umbrella, barter of work from some customers. It is 82 pages long, and all the accounts are in the neighborhood of the old homestead on 1257 Poquonock Ave. Complete alpha index in front.

Names on accounts include many Griswolds, Holcombs, Clarks, Alfords, and Phelps. Other accounts belonged to the Town of Windsor, 2nd Ecclesiastical Society, Silk Factory Co., and Alexander Clapp, who would later be the last proprietor of Richard Niles' first mill before it was shut down. We can see that many of the names were copied over from an older, much longer ledger.

As mentioned in the proposal, there aren't a huge number of transactions described beyond dates and numbers so I still can't definitively place this business as either a saw mill or a silk mill. There are more references to saw mill-type transactions, but references to silk exist as well. Intriguingly, a few different people are being paid for work on "the O.G. House" and "Oliver House".
