This Bill of Lading is mounted on a white backing paper, as the bill has torn and would be in two pieces. The edges of the bill are irregular. The left side details a handwritten list of which items Ebenezer Grant has loaded onto the "Hartford" ship. The right side is the printed and handwritten contract between Jos. Forbes (for the shipping company) and Grant. Beef and pork are among the items inventoried on the ship bound for Barbados. The lower portion of the right side states the conditions of shipment. The shipping company will fulfill their duty unless the weather creates a problem. An image of a boat enclosed in a S shaped sea wave occupies the center of the paper.
