Windsor History Scrapbook

1778 – 1928 (Earliest/Latest dates)
Large scrapbook devoted to Windsor's history. Tan, black, red,and gold cover with an image of a wolf and a bird on the cover. 12 1/2" x 15" x 1 1/4". At least one of the items was collected by Annie E. Porter, and several others were collected by Marguerite Mills. Note: it was determined upon closer examination that none of the items in the scrapbook were attached to the pages. The items appeared to have been assembled by Marguerite Mills for a local history exhibit. Hence the items were removed, numbered with the object number of the album (1986.75.919) but distributed to more readily accessible locations. Newspaper clippings photocopied and placed in library Subject Files, old family documents and certificates with more of donor's genealogical materials in unprocessed archival boxes. Bissell Ferry photo placed in library Photo File for Transportation-- Ferries. Empty album was discarded. Contains newspaper clippings about Windsor's history, notably the Bissell Ferry, Old Palisado, Charter Oak, the Ellsworths, and the first Hartford Bridge. Also contains old documents, including: a certificate for Daniel Porter from the Washington National Monument Society; a certificate for Elihu Case from the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions; papers promoting Daniel Porter to captain of the tenth infantry of the first regiment of the militia in 1848; a photocopy of discharge papers for Daniel Porter from the 2nd Connecticut regiment in 1783; sketch map of property of Daniel and Roger Phelps in 1778; papers promoting Roger Phelps, Jr. to 3rd sergeant in 1810, and a deed for Eliza Ann Harris from Elijah Denslow. The end of the book contains several cross-stitched pieces.
