Student's Account Book, 1836 - 1843


1836 – 1843 (Earliest/Latest dates)
Record of unidentified student's expenditures during time spent at Monson Academy (1836-1837), Amherst College (1838-1841), and New York Theological Seminary (1842-1844). The book is set up with sections to record expenditures for board, tuition, room rent, washing, clothing, light and fuel, books and staionery, and incidentals. Separate section for receipts via public funds and friends, teaching school, personal labor and service, and an annual schedule of totals at the end of the volume. On page 17 ther is note of cash paid to Pierson for board. This may indeed be a book kept by Rev. Samuel H. Allen, Dr. William Pierson's future son-in-law. Allen was a graduate of Amherst College in 1841.

Bound in tan fabric covered boards, green spine with gold accents and "Student's Acount Book" stamped on the cover. Volume was published in Boston by Whipple & Damrell, 1837.
