Donor statement: "Issued in 1792 to help defray the expense of building of the present causeway, which has been raised a great many feet since the building of the original as the writer can recall of boats being used to ferry prople across the old causey during the spring freshet. This was given to Mr. Maude by Nathaniel H. Barber, father of Stron H. Barber."
