Early ink and pencil ownership inscriptions to front pastedown, later obscured by MHS bookplate; early ink inscriptions to front free endpaper ("Youth Library Madison No. 86") and later ink gift inscription to first page recto ("Frances N. King from C.A. Nash 1903.")

Volume four only of a six-volume set. This is an 1828 Bridgeport, CT edition of the works of Flavius Josephus, a first-century Romano-Jewish historian and military leader. This volume contains one of his most famous works, Antiquities of the Jews, an important record of the history of the Jewish people and Judaism.

This copy was No. 86 of the Hand Academy collection, referred to here as the "Youth Library Madison" in an inscription. Later, in 1903, it was gifted from Catherine Artemesia Wilcox Nash (1824-1903), to her daughter Frances Nash King. Catherine suffered through a long illness that year before her death in September, and must have given this volume to her daughter before she passed away.
